Hybrid Mearl, 2023

Hybrid Mearl

2023
Hybrid Mearl was undertaken as a custom project to suit the needs of the client’s home office. The live edge slab, made of hybrid mountain ash was taken from its rough, undressed state and beautifully brought up to its fine finish now.
The tabletop underwent an initial stage of epoxy filling, to address the labyrinth of seams and veins that run throughout the piece. Larger cavities such as the knot found in the centre and the natural gap on the left side of the live edge required filling also. The client requested that a black epoxy be used, so as to match the legs that they sourced separately. The edge also received treatment, removing the rough bark to reveal a more consistent texture of the sap wood.
