Vertigo Renaissance
Speculative design2024
In a future of play that is increasingly regulated, how can we channel our instinct and nature to take risks once more?
Access to public spaces where we can fully release the playful energy of our body and spirit are becoming increasingly scarce.
In a future where health and safety regulations along with public liability policies have increased; the excitement, element of risk, and opportunity to challenge oneself have been removed from our areas of play.
In this speculative design into the future of play, Vertigo Renaissance investigates the concept of vertigo and imagines a space that champions the value of risk in an urban landscape.
Utilising emerging piezoelectric technology, kinetic energy harnessed from movement within the playground will be converted into electricity that will power the lights of the building. In direct correspondence to the brightness of the lights, the luminance emitted acts as a barometer for the play that is taking place inside. Aiming to be a beacon for the rest of the city.
